New Years Eve

It's a quiet night at the Schwanz-Haberlander household. Nothing going on except watching TV and trying to figure out if we are going to go over the cliff or not.

We had snow a couple of day ago, and decided to take a run up to John's house and see how thing were. Good thing we took the Ranger as there was quite a bit of snow on the road up to the house. We found lots of animal tracks and took a picture of one we can't quite figure out. We will have Murrel take a look at it and see if he knows what it is.

Oct. 21 '12 Spyder Ride

Fred Cummings Motorsports invited us to attend the 3rd annual Spyder Ride. We had gone with them on their first ride, but missed the second one. Since they were going to come up our canyon then head over to Lake Isabella we decided to meet up with them at TOGS. We had gone down for breakfast then back home to get the bike and gear we needed. We went back to the store and figured they would be in our area about 11:00 AM.  We waited for awhile then decided to ride down the canyon and meet up with them as they were coming up. We got as far as the hair-pin curve and there was  everyone stopped at the sides of the road. As we came up on them we were stunned to see a rider and his Spyder in the creek bed.

The man who went off was an older man that rides up here quite often. We don't know just why he missed the turn. He broke his arm and collar bone, broke a rib that put a hole in his lung. We hope for his speedy recovery.

Orbital L-1011

Friday night we had a last minute dinner party and Domino game. Other than the usual suspects in attendance, Shirley came up and joined us. We had a great time with lots of laughs. I can't remember who won... It might have been Marilyn. She's been on a lucky streak and won the last several times.

Saturday we were up early and on the road to the Fly In at the Mojave airport. They were having a special day with a tour of the Orbital Stargazer.  The inside of the airplane is stripped with just a control panel in the back.

After the tour we were back on the tram for a ride back to the hanger where they were going to have a talk by a man (forgot his name) who has flown several missions with this. The Orbital carries  the Pegasus which was developed to provide cost-effective access for the small satellite community. These satellites weigh up to 1,000 pounds.

Marci's Birthday

Saturday Night Oct 6th we were invited to go to Marci and Alice for Marci's birthday party. Marci ended up having to cook her own dinner.  Had a great time, but next year we will have her party where she can just sit and enjoy!

I forgot to take pictures until after the cake was cut. Marci with table runner I made for her.

Colorado   July 28th 2012

We left home at 2:30 am Friday, drove straight through to Pagosa Springs trailering the 3 wheel motorcycle, and tending to 2 dogs. We arrived at Lori and Kathy's at 6:30 pm. John drove all the way again. One would think he does not like the way I drive.  Reene & Bob have been at the house since Wednesday. Reene had made chili for dinner and they saved us some. Yummm.  House now has 4 dogs. Tweety keeps showing Ricky her teeth.

We got to bed about 9:30 but woke up at 2:30 am. Guess I thought it was time to get up and go!

Lori, Kathy and Bob went for a hike. While they were gone John & I went for a bike ride up the hill to Wolf Creek Pass. Took some pictures at the "Great Divide" then stopped at the look out.  A group of women bikers from Albeque  NM. We had a chat with them then came back to the house.

Saturday Strip Club

Strip Club is not what you think!  Once a month I go into Bakersfield to a quilt shop that has a  group who makes quilts using patterns from fabric strips.  I have been going for several months now and enjoy it very much. These are some of my quilts.

July Friday the 13th

Friday : John had been working on my Jet Ski and we took it out to Lake Isabella for a test run. Put it in the water, started it up, jumped on, and just as I was saying what a great ride with the wind in our hair, the darn thing quit. We had to use my water shoes to paddle to shore, walk it back down to the ramp, load it back on the trailer and take it back home. When John checked it out, found the news was not good. The motor had seized.  He reminded me "never take anything out on Friday the 13th for a test run".

We went to dinner with Carl and Marilyn. Went to a new restaurant Marilyn had been to with Red Hat. Was Italian and food and servers were great!

Ice Cream Social

Friday July 6th we had an Ice Cream Social at Murrel & Connies.  Carl & Marilyn, Murrel & Connie, and John & I all made homemade Ice Cream. Shirley, Alice and Marci brought goodies and toppings. We had horse shoes, boat rides and Murrel even went into the creek for a swim.  Marilyn got us each a T-shirt with "RED" on it. Stands for "Retired Extreamly Dangerous."

June

Looks like I will never be a Blogger! I had such good intentions in January. I thought I could really keep to a weekly schedule. My receipes & phone book are still a mess and I'm doing this on the old computer.

Yesterday, Friday we got the boat out for its first summer outing. Murrel and Connie went with us to Lake Isabella to give it a test drive. Ran great and the modifications on the drivers seat worked great. He raised the seat about 5 inches.  The "boys" taking it easy.

Wednesday the 13th  eight of us went on a Quad, Ranger, Jeep ride.  We took off on the road, behind the locked gate, in back of John's old house.  We were headed to Thornton Meadow, but when we were almost to the meadow we took the road to where the old Sawmill is still standing. At one point we crossed the Pacific Crest hiking trail. We had our lunch at the then went on through Clairaville.   Part of our trip was over some really rough road. Murrel and Connie who were ridding the Quad had a flat on the down hill leg of our journey. Lucky we had a couple of cans of flat fix with us. Connie road with us and Murrel took off down the mountain to get to the bottom before tire gave out.  We meet up with him at the bottom by the Fire station. We had a great time. came home dirty and tired.

New Year 2012

I never did get used to writing 2011 and now it's 2012!  Looks like I gave up blogging last summer when the weather got nice and the boat came out. It was very easy just to keep saying "I'll do it tomorrow". One of my goals this year is to blog at least once a week, will see how that goes. I also want to.....
Organize my recipes, fix my phone book and learn my new computer.

I just finished up a pot holder that was part of a Christmas gift for Lori. I'll post a picture along with a couple from Christmas.

With today being the first day of the new year we took the Ranger out and visited with some of the Valley friends. Today was beautiful with clear Sky's and mild temperatures. It was about 75 degrees.  We need some rain and snow in the mountains. As of now we are only 25% of where we should be. We had (John)
put the tracks and ski's on the Ranger for snow but took them off as no rain is in site.
